(Aldus Newsletter, Aug/Sept 87, The Desktop Publisher) Dear User Groups: The demo version of 4th Dimension is being shipped today. Hope you like it. Everyone thinking of buying a database should try it!!! If you need more manuals, just let us know. Thanks, Guy Kawasaki, Acius Developer. (Ap pleLink, 30-Oct-87) A new low-end word processing program called Microsoft Write has been released by Microsoft Corp. Write is a subset of Word and includes the same short menus in Word though some of the dialog boxes have been simplified. Write requires 512K of memory and is fully com ible with Apple's new Multifinder operating system. The program has on-line help, the capability to draw horizontal and vertical lines, multiple columns and an 80,000-word spelling checker. Write has the same file format as Word & users can up-grade to Micro soft Word for a cost of $220.00. The price for Write is $175.00 and was to ship Nov. 2. Sounds like competition for T/Maker's Write Now. (In foWorld, Oct. 26) Another version of PageMaker ?: I thought we just got one, but Aldus Corp. is supposed to be forthcoming with a new version. Its expected features: style sheets, spot color printing, automatic text flow among pages, support for longer documents and arbitrary text runaround using a ''polygon editing tool'' that outlines irregularly shaped objects first, bundled templates, submenus, and controls to ma late the gray levels of images. Mac version to be called 3.0. (InfoWorld, Oct. 26) kb Aldus will unveil Freehand, a Mac graphics program described as having all the features of Adobe Illustrator plus drawing tools such as those in MacPaint and MacDraft and special effects features similar to those in Cricket Draw. No date announced. (InfoWorld, Oct. 26) [Paragraph not published but in the disk file.]
