25 most frequently referenced Web sites

The WebCrawler Top 25 is a list of the most frequently referenced pages on the World Wide Web. What's a WebCrawler? It's an automated database that indexes the contents of the Web. It is sort of the Veronica of the Web--you can type in a word or phrase and the program, having already scouted out vast parts of the Web, will quickly point you to the pages that suit your needs. The best part is this: as it explores the Web, WebCrawler keeps notes about how often pages are linked to other pages. This list shows which Web pages are most frequently referenced by other ones. Since the list is based on those documents that have been visited by the WebCrawler, it's only an estimate. This list, updated on Sunday, June 12, 1994, is based on data from 37,784 documents on 5,783 different servers. You can use the WebCrawler for yourself by connecting to http://www.biotech.washington.edu/WebCrawler/WebCrawler.html.
