SMUG - March Upgrade: News From the SMUG Bureaucracy

Author: Joe Duroux
Date: March, 1994
Keywords: meeting minutes
Text: After the usual auction and lottery for review products, we had a description of the MacWorld Expo by Kevin Savetz. Several other members joined him in describing what they had seen. For more details of the Expo, see the description by Bob Oswell in the February issue. Next, I gave a demonstration of some of the capabilities of QuicKeys. The version that I now use is 3.0, but most of the capabilities are described in my review of version 2.1.3 in the July 1993 issue. One significant improvement is in the documentation, which is now consolidated into two well organized manuals. And there are significant new capabilities. For example, sequences can include conditional branching or jumping, calling subsequences, and scripting. And shortcuts can be triggered by voice with the appropriate equipment. Two special interest groups (SIGs), Desktop Publishing and Multimedia, are getting started. They met briefly at the pizza party on Feb. 24 and have arranged to have their first meetings. The DTP group will meet at 7:00 P.M. on March 14 at the Lumberjack (in the basement of Nelson Hall East) for a tour of the facilities; for further details, contact David Reynolds. The first MultiMedia SIG will meet in Fieldbrook the evening of March 9th. For further details about the Multimedia group, contact Larry Kuhn. Both David and Larry may be reached by e-mail on SMUG-gler's BBS. - - - - Bulletin: Products Available to SMUG members for Review, to be given out at the March meeting: * Marvel Screen Posters - from Berkeley Systems.
